New Additions to Procurement List, Featured Speakers, Make this Year’s Economic Summit a Must Attend Event, May 4-5, 2010

Description:

WASHINGTON, D.C., April 30, 2010 – U.S. Small Business Administrator Karen G. Mills and Senators Robert Menéndez (D-NJ) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) and John Cornyn (R-TX) have confirmed their attendance to address the nearly sold out slate of Hispanic national entrepreneurs who will attend The Latino Coalition’s (TLC) annual Economic Summit and Procurement Event. The summit will be held at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Washington, DC, on May 4-5. These additions complement a stellar roster of speakers that not only includes former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Newt Gingrich, but notable representatives of Fortune 500 companies; among them Intuit; Kodak; PG&E and Hewlett Packard.

Simultaneously, the addition of the U.S Department of Commerce, General Service Administration (GAO), the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, mark this as this the best attended Procurement Session in the event’s history. The Latino Coalition through its support and sponsorship of national procurement events has facilitated over 75,000 appointments that have netted an estimated $8 billion in contracts. In 2009, the session in Washington garnered more than 400 one-on-one appointments between buyers and Latino entrepreneurs from across the nation.

Chairing this year’s business matchmaking session will be Daniel F. Sturdivant II, Assistant Director for Outreach, U.S. Department for Homeland Security, who will also serve as moderator during the “How to do Business with the Government” panel that is also part of this two-day Summit. Another key part of the Summit are the legislative briefings, in which elected officials inform attendees with the latest developments on legislation that affect their industries.

“With the summit fast approaching, I’m glad I made the time to attend,” said Aner lglesias, owner of King Ranch Markets in Los Angeles, CA. “The roster of speakers is the best I’ve seen and I’m looking forward to what will be a fantastic procurement session,” he added.

TLC’s Chairman, and former U.S. Small Business Administrator (2001-2006) Hector V. Barreto, is very bullish on this year’s event. “As the economy turns around, more and more businesses are expanding, so this is an ideal moment to invest in growth,” he said. We have expanded our procurement meeting capacity twice already and interest is high, so I am very pleased that our event will yield the best results to date,” he added.
