In 2003, Latinos became the largest ethnic minority group in America, passing African-Americans and numbering nearly 40 million.
Its growth rate of 13.0 percent over a 39month period was almost four times that of the total population (3.3 percent).
By 2004, there were more than 41 million Latinos in the U.S., representing 14.1 percent of the total population.

The number of Latinos in the U.S. grew 58 percent in the 1990s.
